Hi there, Danica, and to anyone else unsure as to whether Psych Central is safe or not. Take this however you like, but if it helps you, that's great.

I've been a member on PC for over 5 years now. I'm a computer geek. I tend to be very paranoid online (in a non-medical way) for good reason! I'm glad you're being wary of the risks online. However, I don't see anything alarming here.

The certificates are up-to-date, the team is great, the site uses https (mixed content, due to people using foreign images), the site is, to my knowledge, not flagged as a malicious or otherwise nefarious website. It even has a Wiki page:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psych_Central

I have a very long list of unsafe or ad-related domains (380,000+ at the moment) and occasionally update that with new suspect domains; I process very long lists I get from various places online, and then programmatically add flagged domains to my system's domain blocking list.

I use an addon for Firefox called NoScript which helps me know which content comes from where; I've seen nothing wrong at all with what goes on in Psych Central.

This site is well known and even recommended by some professionals. I was a moderator with the Community Support Team a little while ago and was happy to see a team that cares and works hard to make sure this site is safe. I was also a chat moderator for a while. I'm just a Community Liaison now, which I find just casual enough to not stress me out over any duties. xD

Hopefully, with all this in mind, it'll give you peace of mind, but failing that, how about the 400,000+ other Psych Central members?

Before I moved over to Linux, I also used Kaspersky, for 2 or 3 years in-fact; I loved it. If you're worried, I'd suggest loading Windows in Safe Mode and running a full scan with Kaspersky. I would also suggest looking into a freely-available (paid versions are optional) anti-malware program I also used for years called Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, found here:

https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/thankyou/

The nut-shell is that you are okay here, so long as the server-side stuff is administered well, which I'm sure is.

Welcome to Psych Central!
