One of my cats "talks" back. She's naughty, and when I tell her "no" or "get down!" or whatever it may be, she snarks. It's hard to explain--but it's something like that "Rawr!" sound people make at each other when someone is being particularly catty. She's very smart, and has a huge attitude.
