I'm questioning my gender and I loathe my periods. I'm much happier on hormonal contraception that has stopped my periods. AFAB bodies do NOT need to have regular periods...Hormonal contraception is often used to lighten heavy and painful periods as well as regulate irregular ones (3 week hormonal, 1 week placebo for the withdrawal bleed).
However you really don't need a period and my GP gave me hormonal contraception without the placebo pills. Your uterus lining won't thicken on it as how it works is by stopping ovulation or by thickening the cervical mucus or by thinning your uterine lining so an egg can't implant. Many AFAB folks are under the misconception that your period "builds up inside" but that is a myth.
