ben and his friends were at playgroup

one morning, ben discovered a new toy

" look" he told his friends. " it's a toy taxi, and it talks."

ben pressed the horn of the taxi, and a little voice said " I want to go for a drive"

so ben took the taxi for a drive all around the playgroup.

" let me try" said oliver, one of ben's friends.

he pressed the horn and the little voice inside the taxi said " I want to go through the car wash. "

" let's spray it with water!" oliver shouted, so oliver and ben sprayed the taxi with water.

then they pressed the horn again and the little voice in the taxi said " I want to go for a drive".

" but we've done that," shouted ben.

so he pressed it again, and the little voice in the taxi said

" I want to go through the car wash."

ben hit the taxi with his fists

" and we've done that," he said. " why does the taxi keep wanting the same things?"

he pressed the horn again and the voice said,

" I'm out of fuel."

ben didn't know how to solve that problem, so he just pressed it again.

this time, the voice said " drive faster. drive faster!".

before long ben and oliver were wizzing around the playgroup with the taxi

but they were going too fast and didn't look where they were going, and the taxi crashed in to the other toys- and stopped talking.

ben and oliver sighed. they didn't know what to do or what to play.

as they were sitting their wondering what to do, along came oliver's smaller sister clair with her dolls

" my dolls are sick," clair said. " can we take them to the hospital?."

" we need something to act as an ambulence to transport the dolls" ben said. " but what?."

" what about the taxi in front of you?" said clair.

that's when they realised

they didn't need the taxi to talk- they didn't even need it to be a taxi

if they used their imaginations, it could be anything they wanted it to be

and for the rest of the day that's exactly what they did
