When I was a kid and something bad happened I would draw a pic of myself and then another pic of "everyone else" who I assumed was fine. It seemed to make sense at the time.

Also I used to write all my toys names in a lined book and do a register like at school. But I soon realised they were all always there so I had to start leaving one somewhere else and pretend they were sick so I could mark them as absent on the register.
