I found SLAA to be very helpful. I only went for a few months, but I can say that the lessons I learned have lasted a life time. Eventually, I DID get tired of the "overly preachy"ness of it (All the people in my group but one was a Christian and I was a fledgling Buddhist, but this may have more to do with my geographic location in SW Ohio than anything about the organization). After hearing Jordan Peterson and Russel Brand talk together, I was able to see the MERIT in the 12-step group without letting any of the religious themes get to me. But again, even though it wasn't a PERFECT fit, it was some of the best, FREE group work I've ever experienced. 9/10, would highly recommend, even for just a few visits to learn the basics.
