I believe I had a professor in the past (psych department) who had helped clients with this problem. I think your first step would be a get a psychiatric assessment if the person(s) is/are willing. I believe there is psychiatric treatment available for folks with this problem. I don't know details on how they actually treat it but I think a psychiatrist would help you understand it and develop a treatment plan. Good luck to you and your family.
