I was out for dinner one eve...feeling a bit raggedy after a draining day at work. I noticed a woman sitting next to me at the bar seemed really sad (I sometimes eat at the bar to chat with the friendly bartender). I made some small talk with the woman who looked as though something was weighing heavily on her shoulders. She confided that she was feeling overwhelmed because her mother was dying and her family wasn't dealing with it well. I offered a few tips I've learned from my job but mostly just listened quietly with empathy. I wanted to pay her tab but it was already closed out. Turned out that her mother had the same first name as me (my real name). Sometimes I think strange little coincidences like that could be nudges from the Universe...reminding us that we are exactly where we are supposed to be at that particular moment. I couldn't take her pain away but I hope the listening helped during a very sad time in her life
