It is used off label for a lot of things, including cholesterol reduction and even boosting fertility. There are even "bio hackers" who take a small dose for general health.

My internist does not want me on it at the moment, though. I have cholesterol = 240, fasting glucose =99, but she still does not recommend it. I asked if I should take it to counteract the weight gain from olanzapine. But the thing is, I tried Metformin for this purpose in the past and it was useless.
