I was working with a patient who was physically very ill and depressed. She had her head down while we talked and mentioned that it was her birthday and she was really missing home. I gathered a group of colleagues and we sang Happy Birthday to her with gusto. Other patients joined in and she smiled. That was the first time I had ever seen her smile.
