if it did not take at least a month to get the approval there is no back pay to get.

SSI is a monthly income. which means every ........month...... a person gets their money (most on the first of every month)

if a person applies and it takes a month to get approved SSI will send the person a check for that monthly check that they missed.

if a person applies and it takes 6 months to get approved they will receive a check totaling the 6 months worth of checks they missed out on.

but if it takes less than a month to get approved then they havent missed out on any of their checks so there is no money coming to them for that not missed pay check.

keep in mind though some states deduct the amount of money if on other state assistance while waiting.

example some states allow a person to be on welfare while at the same time applying for SSI.

some states require welfare getting their money back during that waiting period between applying and approval. why because that money is considered income that a person wasnt elligable for if they get approved by SSI. its a strange situation,

think of it like getting paid twice for the same job. one person is going to want their money back.

so sometimes welfare allows a person to stat on their welfare grant but pay them back if the approval goes through. this situation results in the back pay going to welfare first for deducting the amount that they are owed then whats left if anything goes back to SSI and then SSI issues whats left to the person approved for SSI. like I said a very strange situation but I know of those that this has happened to.

my point is there are many reasons why a person wouldnt get back pay from SSI.

to find out if your husband is going to get any back pay he needs to contact his caseworker listed on his paperwork. or he can go to his nearest social security office and they will look up on their computer who he has been assigned to for a SSI caseworker. or he can call the number on his award letter where it says any questions call ________. they will be able to look up on their computer what his caseworkers name and number is. then he calls his caseworker.

keep in mind unless he has named you on his paperwork as his representative or care taker they will not be able to give you any information. it will have to be him asking for the information and talking to his caseworker. hippa privacy rules and such prevent SSI from giving out information to just anyone not listed as having permission on the case paperwork.
