I think there has been a slow, steady increase in selfishness (going hand-in-hand with an increase in overall rudeness) over the years. It is partly the culture; and it's gotten a bit worse with that Drumpf person yapping off every single day about something or other. I hope and pray people never come to see his behaviour as normal or acceptable!
20+ years ago, when I started working for a fairly posh retail chain of stores, we had a week-long training session in Customer Service. It surprised me that, to most of the people in that room with me, these concepts had never occurred to them. I was a bit older than most everybody there, and I had learned at home that courtesy is an art form, and that it would help you in life. And being considerate and thoughtful can REALLY turn someone's day around, definitely!
I will say that the way in which the lessons were presented made an impression on me, and a lasting one. A refresher course in courtesy is never wasted, I believe.
And Silver Trees, I think you and I are a lot alike.
