We have some rules about what goes where in the house - no food in the bedroom, showering before going out, for example - but beyond those simple rules we compromise, or else she gets free rein.

We also have an inner critic inside us. Your inner child is unlikely to be the one telling you your are stupid. That talk comes from the inner critic.

For me going back to a childlike way of relating to things helps. Thus my inner critic is AKA my inner snake. Creating a world where my inner child feels comfort helps.
