Social anxiety is something I always struggled with (including group presentations.)
Nowadays I've become pretty thoroughly reclusive. We have caller ID on our phone. And we only answer it if it's someone we want to talk to. Otherwise, whoever it is can leave a message if they want to. I couldn't recommend caller ID highly enough if anyone doesn't happen to have it. I'm not on Facebook or Twitter or any of that sort of stuff.
I don't know if there's really much a doctor could do for you, with regard to social anxiety, other than to prescribe some sort of anti-anxiety medication.
