Hello Ali: Thank you for bringing your concern here to PC. I see this is your first post. So... welcome to Psych Central. One forum, here on PC, that may be of interest to you would be the anxiety, panic & phobias forum. Here's a link:

You wrote you're a timid person, you're easily scared, & as you've gotten older it's gotten worse. I may not be quite as timid as you describe yourself. But I tend to be a pretty cautious person. And as I've aged, it has also gotten worse for me too. (Of course, I don't know how old you are. I'm 70!) I actually do quite a few of the things you do as well. (I don't carry a knife. But I do have a large walking stick that could be used as a weapon should the need arise.)

You asked if the things you described are "normal". I recall, many years ago, a psychology professor I had in college told us that mental illnesses are simply more extreme examples of things everyone does or experiences. And we all have them to one degree or another. He said he was confident he could go around our class & "pull" pathology out of each & every one of us. So I would be inclined to say the behaviors you describe are, perhaps, simply somewhat more extreme examples of things most people do every day. However I would think that, since it sounds like the things you are doing are of concern to you, then perhaps you might want to consider seeing a mental health professional about them... perhaps a mental health therapist... not so much because of the things you are doing themselves but rather because of the fear & stress you are experiencing that is driving you to do the things you do. At least that is my personal, non-professional opinion.

One thing you might consider doing, here on PC, is to take some of the quizzes & tests that are on offer. Here's a link to the listing of quizzes & tests that are available:

Psychological Quizzes and Tests

I hope you find PC to be of benefit.
