My dad takes a damp wash rag and wipes the cats down about once a week and it has tremendously helped with his allergies. He started wiping them down when they were kittens and they don't seem to mind.
Sidenote: When they were kittens after they got wiped down he'd wrap them in a warm towel and make sure they were nice and dry so they wouldn't get sick.
