It is pretty confusing. And it's still evolving so it can be a lot to keep up with. Most of what I've learned has come through trying to figure out my own identity. When I was young (I'm 48), there weren't any choices of labels, there was only the traditional binary enforced by religion. Even if I can't express it much in my daily life, being able to understand that there are words for how I have always felt and communities of similar individuals, has made my own dysphoria much easier to live with. The rest I've learned while trying to educate myself about the issues faced by friends and others like them.
