I'm kinda concerned.
I'm 22. I've been drinking a lot lately. Like at night. I want to stop, but kinda crave it when I'm around it. Also, at my age everyone seems to drink. How can I just stop completely without feeling like I'm missing out? I can't be drinking with the medicine and I'm scared of messing up my liver. Also, have family history of alcoholics. I could never see myself being like them but it's always possible. Sorry if this doesn't make too much sense. |

I think you have good insight and have a chance to avoid active alcoholism (due to possible genetics).
The term "crave" has helped to understand what might be going on for you. Quit while you can, if you can. If not, I think the craving will bother you even more? I understand your concerns, as I have many family members living with alcoholism. I do not want to become alcoholic either. Let's not become active alcoholics. You could replace it with going to the gym ? Or something else you enjoy doing

Speak to your doctor on how to go about it. I was a full blown alcohol by 25 (got married that year) and I was drinking everyday until later on I was admitted to ICU where I was induced into a coma for liver failure which left me close to death. I was revived, then back to sleep again for two months. Everyone thought I was a gonna. I had to learn how to talk, walk, per, so many GREAT memories.
It doesn't bother me seeing others drink, even though my father continues.. but I was a heavy user. Sure, I feel slightly brain damaged, but you don't want that shiit ruining your life, I remember I didn't get hangovers, a sign my liver was on it's way out. But it's your life. I secretly was drinking myself into an early grave. Maybe it's anxiety that should be looked into. |

Family history is definitely something to think about! I don't think there is an easy answer to how you could not drink and not feel like you are missing out if that is what everyone is doing every time they go out! Maybe try surrounding yourself with people that like to do things sober as much as they do drinking, that way you have a balanced life of going out a appropriate amount and doing other things instead of drinking. Also if quitting is something that you would want to do, it's probably a good idea to remove as much of it as possible from your life, it just makes it easier to do.
