In a major change, Canada legalized pot, and it takes effect today. There are a still a ton of details to be worked out about how it will be sold etc., across the different provinces.
I read yesterday, that the federal government was looking to issue pardons to anyone with just a simple possession under 30 grams convicition, which I support. Personally I won't be taking advantage of the new opportunity. I tried it back in university and had an allergic reaction. And I have 2 mental illnesses that pot can make worse, plus lord only knows how it would interact with my meds cocktail. I do think this will lead to an increase in addiction, putting even more strain on an under resourced treatment sector. splitimage |

I've had a prescription for a year and a half. I currently order world famous BC bud and get it delivered right to my house. I know some people struggle with addiction. People also get addicted to pain killers, benzos, sleeping pills and many other prescription drugs. I don't understand the addiction side of things as although I enjoy pot, I can take it or leave it.
I guess primarily I'm glad it has been legalized. It does have health benefits, unlike smoking and drinking which are also legal. Also it will pump in tax dollars which maybe we will see some benefit from. I say maybe because well...politicians. |

I think alcohol, tobacco products and prescription pills are FAR worse and more dangerous than pot.
The only reason marijuana is ever illegal is because of money. The (US) government has already patented the cannanbinoids for its benefits back in 2003 but will not make it available to everyone. __________________ |

We already have stores. There are prescription only stores. There are also dispensaries which have been illegal, but no one has done anything.
Apparently the cannabis stores are getting about 100 orders per minute in Canada today. Lol |

Distribution in Ontario, is legally by on-line order only from a gov't source until private stores are licensed next spring sometime. Still lots of illegal dispensaries though.
They're also still figuring out regulations around edibles, so a lot of details still to be hashed (no pun intended) out. splitimage |

Canada, an enlightened country! This means the police can stop wasting time on minor weed problems and focus on the serious drugs.

Exactly Nammu. That's one of the reasons I am in favour of legalization.

While both dispensaries and edibles are still technically illegal, I order edibles from a dispensary and get it delivered to my house with no issues. The pot from this dispensary is far superior to the stuff I got from the government approved place and it's cheaper too.
The only thing the police seem to care about right now is driving high. That makes sense to me. Impaired is impaired. Considering that marijuana is a plant, I find it quite absurd that it was ever illegal. That the government can step in and regulate nature blows my mind. I suppose that's another rant for another day. Hippie mentality for the win. |

I live in the States, & there's a ballot initiative this November to make marijuana legal. I don't smoke, but hope the initiative passes. Not only do I think people should be able to make their own choice, but the tax revenue taken in by marijuana sales will boost public funds...both here & in Canada.

Well in a new wrinkle, I got a letter from my landlord saying they were ammending the tenant bylaws to outlaw cannabis smoking and cultivation from anywhere on the property.
Apparently a lot of the big rental properties and condo boards are going the same way. splitimage |

Pot is still pretty heavily policed in my state. The closest thing to leniency is a first offender program with a significant fine and lots of community service and a requirement to attend some rehabilitation/education sessions. Air Canabi-, I mean Canada, just announced they are going to start using a larger plane for the direct flight to Toronto in January and add a new direct flight to Montreal in June. Probably has nothing to do with legalization... __________________ | |Up and down |And in the end it's only round and round |Pink Floyd - Us and Them | |bipolar II, substance use disorder, ADD |lamictal, straterra | |
