Implying that art is a habit.

I found drinking iced water with lemon slices really helped me stay sober with absolutely no interest in drinking alcoholic beverages.

Sorry Lucy D. But in the interests of your question

I drink a lot of coffee. I even quit smoking but I think that was due to the wellbutrin.

Yes, I made it through the weekend. I feel so much better without drinking and I hold onto that thought. I can't just have one so I won't have any. Last time I drank I had 18 lite beers! Embarrassing to say but I can't go on like that. I am 61, retired with no children but have a little dog and 2 Parakeets I care for. Plus recovering from liver disease is a full time job for me. Trying to eat right, drink plenty of water, do my household duties, keep up my household, bring supplies home to use. I am slower than I used to be but still I am alive and happy to be today.

No it is not like a 12 step program at all. It stand for Self Management and Recovery Training. I ordered the Handbook and printed out all of the worksheets. It seems like psychology based to me. Lot of good, practical ideas to apply to recovery. I didn't want a 12 step program again. I'm glad it is so different and makes more sense to me. It is not religion based at all.

Man, I am really bummed that your experience with AA was religion based because that is not what its about at all. I am an atheist and it worked well for me.

Don't be bummed about it. I was glad to get away from AA many years ago. There are many it doesn't work for, more than you will ever know. I meant it relies on God or a power greater and many can't comprehend that or feel it's religious. I know what AA is about. I attended it for 4 years and hated it at the end. I stayed sober despite a sponsor who tried to sell me everything she could (vitamins, etc.) for almost 20 years. Many stay sober without AA because they can do it without. There are many other ways to recover. AA is not a cure all for Alcoholism--and they say there is no cure there. It's always important to remember though that one drink is too many. I think it's great if AA works for you or others. It's not for me and not for so many.

I don't know what the issue with prescribing Campral...it WORKS....

My problem with Campral was it WORKS and so I would just decide not to take it for a couple of days because I was thinking of drinking....

I am in the same place you are...quit 8 years...started again 4 years ago....I did have 10 months last year...and then I got in a big fight with my sister and I drank..and 2 days later SHE DIED...and I drank more and more.

Now I'm like you 2 weeks is the most I can go....this time it was a day short of one week.

I drank about 9 beers last night..and feel like crap today...and does that make me not want to drink again? Nope..It makes me want to hydrate...take care of myself and at least NOT drink today....

I had a problem with going on "benders"....where I because I drank last night the first thing I used to do in the morning was drink to avoid the hangover...this led to days of drinking and wreaking havoc on my body....and so I think I"m doing good by not drinking TODAY after drinking last night.

I don't know how to stop except....JUST DONT DRINK ONE DAY AT A TIME...and it works...but I always give in and drink when I am overwhelmed with life.

when you crave a drink think of HALTO
Am I hungry, angry, lonely, tired or over whelmed?
Identify what is causing you to feel a craving and then fix that issue.
Usually I am thirsty or hungry. so have a soda and a piece of cheese.

I can relate to all you said Sarah. I went for 22 or 23 days recently. Then I wanted to drink so bad for days and tried many things in my mind not to. Reasoned about it and how it's so bad for me. Then I gave in and drank. Didn't drink as much as before but still felt bad. Not even counting the days I don't have a drink anymore. Makes me anxious. So I put my last drink date on my phone calander and will look at it once in awhile. Just getting through Today is all that matters. Feeling down in the dumps but I'll get over it.

Hey, I like that HALTO! Got to keep that in mind.

I feel for you LucyD. I had an alcohol habit until my son pointed out to me that my eyes "looked funny" when I drank. This could happen after a couple drinks. I looked at myself finally and saw what he meant. If my son hadn't pointed it out I would have never quit. I don't handle alcohol well as I get drunk quickly. That was a long time ago and I still miss a nice glass of wine. If I were ever to go back to it (I won't) I would enjoy the flavor not the effect. I guess that means less than 1 glass. But I'm off the stuff for good.

I'm hoping to get Campral from the new Nurse Practioner I will see on the 21st. It has worked for me before and cut my urges to drink way down. I know what you mean about benders; I did that for awhile, too. Have you tried SMART Recovery? It has helped me. Even there they say often we can't quit all at once..it sometimes takes time. I got the Handbook from there and should start reading it. I also printed out all of their work sheets. I also got another handbook for women with addiction problems. I have been addicted to so many things. I think I am addiction prone. I wish you well.

Thanks, I put it on the calender so I don't obsessively think about the date of my last drinks. If I want to know when it was I just get out the smartphone and look. Good on you with your sobriety calculater.
