Congrtulations on getting started and having a plan. Sounds sensible to me. And I'm with you on the taste of Thiamine - it's just nasty.

Hi all,

Sorry for not getting around to updating sooner. Iíve been having success on the alcohol front having cut back from 8 cans of beer a day to 5 cans a day currently.

Iíve not been sleeping well though and my mental health problems arenít good either. Been hearing more voices.

Thankfully the nurse Iím seeing has experience with mental health too, maybe thatís why I got assigned to her, and we are keeping an eye on it. Might bring forward my p-doc appointment and consider going back on meds but waiting to see if things improve for now.

There is some worry alcohol withdrawal could exacerbate these things as I cut back further. Iím a bit apprehensive but still feeling motivated and confident about reducing for now.

Congratulations on cutting back on the beer. That's great. When coming off alcohol, unless you check into a detox, slow is the way to go.

If it were me, I'd mention the voices to my pdoc. He might be able to help you.

Hey, thanks for asking

Again sorry for not replying sooner... Iíve not exactly lost motivation but been a bit up and down.

Mostly Iíve been at 5/6 drinks a day but have had a few days up to 7/8 cans again. Iím trying to get back on track.

Itís all a process and everything canít go 100% perfect all the time, just got to keep working towards the goal of abstinence.

There was some talk about getting meds to help with cravings if I find Iíve reached a sticking point but weíll see how it goes for now. I have my next appointment next Wednesday having not had one this week.

We are still working on cutting back gradually. For the moment a medical detox isnít on the cards.

As I said perhaps some of the meds to help with craving if needed.

I have read of Antabuse though. Sounds more like for relapse prevention. I understand even a tiny amount of alcohol can trigger a bad reaction and thatís how it works?
