I use food to relieve stress, and I’m overweight. I need help. How do I stop?

Can you check with your doctor or online if there is an Overeaters Anonymous group? I've never done it, but I know for people who go through the health care system here for bariatric surgery it's required.

I'm an emotional eater too and gained a lot of weight. I took drastic steps - I had my stomach removed so I literally cannot overeat now. I didn't want to put the work in with diet and exercise and therapy, so I had surgery. Some would strongly disagree with what I did, but for me, it was the best thing I ever did.

I'm so sorry you're struggling, athlete78 I completely agree with piggy momma. I'd suggest to talk to your doctor about this and see how it goes from there. Hopefully he/she will be able to help you. Food addiction can be really serious, and it may develop into an eating disorder if it's not handled properly. I hope you'll be able to get the help you need and deserve. Remember that we're here for you if you need it. Feel free tom PM me anytime. Let me know if I can do something to help you. I'm so sorry you have to deal with this

Find something else to do that.

I am working with
-Medical Marijuana;
- CBD;
- anything that feels pleasurable

Finally ask for assistance. There are drugs that make you not want food and also that work on stress -- SSRI drugs.

I'm an over eater too. I eat my emotions, eat out of boredom, eat when I'm stressed. I won't do the med route, for one I'm bipolar and with ssris come major issues for me. And on counterpoint most meds made me feel MORE hungry. Diets leave me feeling unfulfilled, hungry, angry, and emotional. Except juicing. Man that feels good if you do it right but the cost is astronomical. I'm diabetic so I have to eat/balance and I walk frequently with no license.. but I'm severely over weight and my eating does not stop. I used to think about bariatric surgery but you have to give up smoking stay quit and lose a token amount of weight to show you mean business. I can't even.. and frankly I enjoy my cigarettes. There are certain medications out there that stop the absorption of fat but my doctor told me about some rather unpleasant side effects that come with meds like that.. such as **** leakage.. that's not something I'm ready to sign up for. And back to the bariatric surgery the two people I have known some what personally to have it done have since passed away. Not from complications per say but from malnutrition and related issues. Also not ready to commit to something quite that drastic. Being obese is hard. Over eating is hard. People paint pictures of us in unfortunate light. Most of my diet is raw fruits and vegetables but the scale won't budge. Don't get me wrong I do eat crap too.. but once it's on you... sigh
