7 years on amphetamine and 3 on a benzodiazepine. One year on them together. I’ve been doing so well in school on this combination, but I lost my provider. I can only seem to get one or the other not both. I’m going to have to pick one to get off. Been tapering the benzo. I can’t do it man. A student half way to a 4 year chemistry degree and now I’m an addict. How dare I do what works to get a degree. I should be working at a cash register and smoking and drinking instead, I guess.

I have a lot of anxiety and panic attacks with my mixed state bp1 stuff and was on Klonopin for quite awhile. But Klonopin makes me tired and depressed, so we stopped it. It took awhile to do that. I am doing fairly well off anxiety meds right now, so I am lucky for the time being. I am also on the stimulant Provigil. If I had to stop the Provigil and for some reason also couldn't take Adderall, my life would be drastically different. I would probably go back to living in my bed, I would be so tired all the time.
So, for me, it's easy. I'd give up the benzos and keep the Provigil or Adderall or whatever every single time. But that's me. I don't know what your primary treatment issues are. Have you had a heart to heart with this prescriber about staying on both? What is the rationale for making you stop one? There's no rule or law in psychiatry school that says you can't be on a benzo while also on a stimulant, at least not as far as I know. Sounds like she/he is just making stuff up. __________________ When I was a kid, my parents moved a lot, but I always found them--Rodney Dangerfield |

Have you ever thought about what the underlying issues are? I mean, yeah, you say you're doing well in school, and that's great. But, there could be serious consequences if you continue on that path. It seems to me like you need to have a heart-to-heart with your prescriber (like someone else said in this thread). Honestly, being honest with doctors is good, in my opinion. You've gotta tell them the truth. If not you're only hurting yourself. It's not like I don't struggle with this stuff myself either, too. I mean, it's so hard to come clean to a doctor. But that might be good for you... Just a few thoughts.
Edited: I don't know if I read too much into your post. But maybe, if any of that applies, take it to heart. If not, you can discard the advice... Last edited by WastingAsparagus; Nov 04, 2019 at 10:56 PM.. Reason: Not sure |

Benzos are schedule 4 in Canada so legal for individual possession of I think 90 days or something (Not legal to sell). I have a bunch of Xanax but I never use it (Only for panic attacks - Which I never get anymore). My panic is caused by derealization and depersonalization (Dissociation) which can be caused by dissociative drugs and psychedelics (So I don't take those anymore).
If I do get panic attacks, my doctor gives me 20x 1mg Ativan when I need but I just have the Xanax with me just in case. I was using the Xanax with coke but I realize that there's no need to be doing that so I threw 700mg cocaine away and I also threw 3500mg methamphetamine away because I have Vyvanse 50mg that I take every morning. I used to abuse methylphenidate (Sometimes 500mg methylphenidate at once) but now I just take my stimulant as prescribed (It is possible). I believe that I'm not abusing drugs anymore because of my intense psychedelic trip. I used to abuse 4-fluoromethylphenidate, 4-dimethylphenidate, ethylphenidate and 3,4-dichloromethylphenidate but I withdrew from them and stabilized myself. Doing good things in life like meditating, hiking, being with friends/family, working on yourself, eating healthy, exercising your body and mind, having stimulating conversations and being spiritual can make you not want drugs anymore. |
