I have an addiction and a mental health diagnosis, i believe this to be called a duel diagnosis. They go hand in hand and id have to say my drug use is just a way to self medicate my mental condition. Being aware and treating my condition im hoping will slow my drug use and I will lose the desire to use.
Possible trigger:
A big price to pay for someone else screwing up.

I'm so sorry you lost your girlfriend due the assault. That's terrible. She probably didn't think she deserved you after it happened. I'm a hopeful person, and maybe with therapy you two can find each other again.

Currently I have a psychologist and also go to a suboxone clinic which also provides a counselor which is helpful.

I also have a dual diagnosis, and my drug use is definitely medicating my mental health problems. I saw your other post, I'm an opiate user too. I hope the treatment you're getting is helping.

I have always felt there were two basic kinds of addicts. Those who use due to an untreated or porrly treated mental illness issue and those that use mostly because they like the way it feels. I was always the first and once my mental illness was finally somewhat well treated, all the addiction crap just disappeared. Poof!!!!!!!!!

I go to a 12 step group specifically for people with mental health issues and addiction. It's called Double Recovery. I believe in the US there are also groups called "Dual Diagnosis Annonymous"

You might consider looking for one in your area.
