Nice work, Dad for showing me every step of the way guidebook on how to become an alcoholic! I remember being just a little girl & noticing how your personality changed with every single can of beer. Pathetic behavior to show to your 3 kids. Did u ever once think getting drunk daily might set a bad example for any kids, present? I could go on & on here, for days on end. My Dad is passed away now and I am 3 years+ sober, today. But I will never forget the damage. I still have severe issues today I suffer with, growing up with an alcoholic. Beer was most important, I get it. Pathetic....

Is it possible your dad had a mental illness or was dealing with trauma of his own? It's not an excuse and we don't all have awareness and coping tools under our belts.

I wonder if you were to learn and understand where he was coming from, you'd gain a bit of empathy towards him and heal yourself?

MsLady.....thanks for your comment. I'm not good at replying, cuz things are hard to put into words. Yes my father had mental illnesses. I did always have empathy, truly I did. But crap runs too deep & I really suffer with mental illness. Some could be genetic. His dad was put into a mental institution & diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. But my dad thought that was not a big deal & even hid it from my mom, when she was first pregnant, with me (the oldest). Its a giant web of lies. Anyways I'm still sober & I can think clearly, now. About all of this. Thanks for reading.

For many the whole purpose of drinking is to escape and not feel. It isn't planned to become addicted and alcohol dependent.

I am sorry you had to experience that challenge in your father and then ended up drinking yourself. That happens a lot sadly. Also, they have learned that the susceptiblity is inherited.
