Hi mightycool. Welcome to Psych Central!

I hope this is the place you are looking for. When I looked up the definition of psychopath, it came up Antisocial Personality Disorder !

Hope you get the support you are looking for!

I messaged my good friend Steiger to comment on your other post or you could seek him out. I think he will have some helpful advice.

I thought psychopaths did not know they are psychopaths or that anything was wrong with them. Are you sure you are a psychopath?

Plenty of psychopaths are fully aware that they're psychopathic. They're just not stupid enough to advertise it to the entire world, generally speaking.

Just my opinion but, I don't think psychopaths would benefit from a social support setting. (Or rather wouldn't be able to use one appropriately)

Why do you think you know what an entire group of people would benefit or not benefit from? You can't paint an entire group of people with the same brush based on one label that they happen to share.

Because none of us wants to be judged by the label we carry, but we have no problem judging anyone different us. I've never understood that myself.

That was really insightful, I'm not being sarcastic. Thank you for that honesty, it's refreshing.

I think that as a society we are trying to become more accepting of mental illness, but really we have only made it as far as depression and anxiety. If you have anything else you are still an outcast. It's particularly difficult to see this among other mentally ill who know how it feels. Not everyone with depression is the same. Not everyone with schizophrenia is the same. Not everyone with antisocial personality disorder is the same. People should understand that.

Unfortunately the personality disorders are highly stigmatized against. The views against narcissists and psychopaths for example. Everyone assumes they are evil, but isn't evil a subjective term anyways?

Anyhow I'm ranting. I do that sometimes.

Okay, I get the mindset of being understanding, but psychopathy is a completely different thing than a typical personality disorder.

Accordingly, there ARE discussion forums for both AsPD and NPD.

Psychopathy is not a personality disorder or the same as AsPD. It is also not a mental illness but a condition of having a different brain structure.

Your nitpicking is irrelevant to the point I was making. I'm here to offer support where needed, not argue over semantics.

Are you referring to me or someone else as nitpicking?

Sure society is totally seeking to understand mental illness, is that why when something goes wrong the media/public automatically blames it on mental illness? First thing that happens with lets say, a school shooting, is that they presume the suspect is mentally ill because the shooter simply being angry isn’t a good enough reason. People may say they are trying to understand and be more accepting of MI but that’s just a bunch of bull and everyone knows it. We will always be different and misunderstood and hoping that one day we aren’t is a waste.

Well that was uplifting. Lol. I see what you are saying for sure. I did not consider the media. I was thinking about things like bell let's talk day, stars like Carrie Fisher, the many people sharing their stories on social media, project semi colon, etc. Maybe society as a whole isn't trying, but some people definitely are. Of course I am an eternal optimist. Gag right?

Where there is hope there is also disappointment. Better to be a pessimist.
