I get this feeling of tightness in my chest, pulsing veins orbeing aware of my heart beat..so a doctor suggested me to get my BP checked at random times of the day. Which I did. Twice it read normal. Today it read slighty higher 140 upper..but my doc asked me if I walked to his office, which I did, it's about a 5 or 7 min walk at most..so he said it's probably the walk reflecting the slight increase. Now, im just wondering how many more readings should I get to get an accurate number..I keep thinking maybe it reads normal when I get checked.
And maybe it elevates later during the day when im more stressed..I've been dealing with some seriously stressful changes..in one of those times that I never even imagined in my worst nightmares..lietrally in hell..

So can somebody suggest any ideas or share any advice on how can I assure my anxious mind that my BP is not sneaking in silently through the day..

I've been having the same issue recently and they only way I know what my BP is up to is to take it. So I have been taking it randomly throughout the day but also take it when I feel stressed or just off. Keep a notebook and jot down the time of day and if you are feeling anxious, note that, too.

If it makes you feel any better, I went through this four years ago and my doc recommended BP meds but I told her I felt like if I got my anxiety under control, the BP would self-correct. It did. I'm hoping for the same thing this time since I've had stressors recently, too.

Is it possible for all these physical responses pullsing veins in the body, tightness in chest, being aware of the heart beat to exist without affecting blood pressure?

My blood pressue issues are totally related to anxiety. I had borderline high blood pressure for a long while (the doctor was watching in case I needed blood pressure medication) but once I got on the right psych drugs, my blood pressure came down (last time I went to the doctor, it was 113 over 70). So keep in mind that anxiety can definitely send your blood pressure up....

Sunnydisposition, the sensations you are feeling may be signs your BP is elevated. Do you have a BP cuff to take it at home?

I hope you don't get discouraged. Just like nowinners said, if your BP is elevated you can get control of your anxiety, it may normalize.

Little Lulu I don't have a BP monitor at home...that would have put an end to this worry once and for all..I got checked again yesterday and it read 120 - 70..again normal..so I now know that my BP stays in the normal zone normally. All im concerned about right now is when in pshysically triggered...i just need to get checked during one of those triggered phases...

((((sunnydisposition)))) Just remember to check when you're in a particularly stressful situation. More than once, if possible. That way, you'll know for sure. I believe blood pressure can definitely increase with anxiety. Let us know how it goes.

Well, good to hear that your BP is generally running okay. Do you know someone who has a home monitor that you could borrow for a few days and use to take it when you are having the sensation that it is up? If not, Walmart and most pharmacies like Rite Aid and CVS have them you can use for free.

I sure hope you get this sorted out so you can understand what is going on. Take care of yourself.

I had to go on blood pressure meds about 6 years ago and I think it was because of my anxiety. My doctor did test on me and couldn't find a reason that cause the elevation in my blood pressure.I also ask if I would be able to come off the meds. She decided to keep me on them to keep my blood pressure under control even if I go through stressful situation.

I do suffer from lab coat hypertension. I told the nurse that checks my blood pressure that I do suffer from anxiety... That is why my pressure goes up. I go to the gym 3 days a week, walk 5 days a week, no red meat or pork and low sugar and sodium. I told my primary care not to prescribe me blood pressure meds. She can see it on my chart also That I do suffer from anxiety.
Blood pressure anxiety..
