So I recently went to a networking event for my industry and although Im proud of myself for getting out and into the world. I also feel anxious and awkward. I could not go up to complete strangers that are already in a group talking to introduce myself. Im just not that outgoing. As I was leaving this guy walks up as Im waiting for the elevator and ask me a few questions, to which I awkwardly paused and sort of answered his question. We talked a few minutes until we reached the lobby. I hate when I come off awkward and socially inept. I feel Im really bad at small talk. What makes it more awkward is that Im a female that gets a lot of intention as it is. Im naturally introverted... I guess I should have practiced my elevator pitch before going.
Im glad I pushed myself to get out of my comfort zone but at the same it makes me never want to try it again lol |

Thanks for sharing your experience. There was a time, many years ago now, when I thought that if I just put myself in difficult interpersonal situations, eventually I'd get used to it & it would cease being a problem. That never happened for me. And now, so many years later, I'm just a stay-at-home. I don't recommend that for anyone else. But in my case, I'm happier for it.
