How did you come to understand that you dissociate? Did you just read something and think "that's me" or did a significant event happen of some kind?
When you understood, how did you feel about it?
Do you experience it daily in some way or is it occasional?

Really just looking for some general talk on the topic. It's new to me. I'm feeling a lot of confusion mixed with a little shame and some salt

Thanks in advance.

I only dissociate during severe stress or an anxiety attack. My dissociation experince varies with the anxiety I'm having. Sometimes I feel detached from my own body like I'm hovering obove and Im a spectator, sometimes I feel like nothing is real and I'm in a dream, and sometimes I start to think I'm invisible (like I'm standing behind abthock piece of glass) and no one can see or hear me.

I thought what I experience was a normal part of anxiety, but after talking to my therapist she said it sounded like I dissociated sometimes. I then read more about dissociation online and although my trigger starts off with normal anxiety symptoms, I definitely experince derealization/depersonalization in some of my anxiety attacks.

Hopefully other people here on PC will be able to help you, Nemo1934. I'd suggest to talk to a doctor about this and see how it goes from there. Wish you good luck! Let us know how it goes. Please don't give up. Sending many hugs to you

I knew something was wrong for years. For some time I couldnt put a finger on what it was, then I had an epifany in the shower (lol), I realized there was a courtain between me and the world (I was a teenager feeling like that for ever). But it was very confusing to me, so it was not like this other people felt? I couldnt explain and understand much. So time went on.
I don't remember the exact time I learned about depersonalization. I search the web a lot back them and at the time I made a new self diagnose everyday. To speak the truth my confusion and bad memory probably made me forgot and remember a lot about that diagnosis (depersonalization) I identified myself with... It was a break thought reading about it, but there came other break thoughts and I was just confused on what diagnosis to believe was mine.

(I hope this doesn't post twice--I'm really new here)

My sister had it the year before I did, so I recognized what it was when I first started having it. I actually think that could've messed me up more, because I was mentally trying to fight it off from the start, which is like the worst thing you can do.

I get almost every night (starting at about 6:30pm or so), and every two or three weeks it comes back for a few days straight.

I can't find the article (and, even if I could, I haven't made enough posts to link things yet), but I thought Medium's article (called something like Learning To Live With Derealization--I can't remember the exact name) to be really helpful, even for someone who dissociates for reasons other than DPD. Maybe you'll have more luck finding it. It focuses on learning to accept the condition more than getting rid of it, which I didn't think would be helpful, but actually really is.(Also, the more you learn to ignore it, the easier it goes away on its own)

I'm really sorry you're going through this, and I hope you feel better soon!
