Hi, I’m new here, and I was wondering whether anyone else here has shared this as a symptom of depression/anxiety/OCD?
I recently saw a psychiatrist and told him that I was concerned that I had some type of disorder, like maybe BPD, because everything I touch seems to turn to mud and I’m the only common denominator. He gave me an eighty question test (which made me terribly anxious because I knew I was taking to long but I wanted to get it ‘right’) and tallied up my score - no BPD but “quite a few” borderline traits. Because I was trying to restrain the panic that he was judging me as harshly as I have come to judge myself and the feelings of humiliation and shame, I did not ask any further questions, but simply scurried out as quickly as I could. I should have asked whether or not this is a common thing for sufferers of anxiety and depression, but I thought I would reach out to the World Wide Web instead. Sorry for the too long post - I suck at being succinct! |

Hello Reagan: I see this is your first post here on PC. So... welcome to Psych Central.
I'm an older person & I kicked around the mental heatth system where I live for somewhere in the neighborhood of 18 years before I finally gave up on it altogether. I still don't have a diagnosis. I presume there must be something written down somewhere... probably depression. But it's not based on anything & I certainly know there was more going on with me than just that. I've done a couple of different tests over the years. But they never amounted to anything. At this point, I've simply left it all behind. It's pointless. Anyway... that's my story in a nutshell, as the saying goes. One thing you might consider doing, here on PC, is to take some of the quizzes & tests that are on offer. Here's a link to the quizzes & tests that are available: Psychological Quizzes and Tests And then here are links to 5 articles, from Psych Central's archives, that offer tips for managing anxiety & stress: Living with an Anxiety Disorder 9 Ways to Reduce Anxiety Right Here, Right Now 15 Small Steps You Can Take Today to Improve Anxiety Symptoms Top 10 Lesser-Known Self-Help Strategies for Anxiety https://psychcentral.com/lib/20-tips...e-your-stress/ I hope you find PC to be of benefit. __________________ "I may be older but I am not wise / I'm still a child's grown-up disguise / and I never can tell you what you want to know / You will find out as you go." I now think that worrying about what mental illness I might have may simply be a type of generalized anxiety disorder (I have been diagnosed with GAD and definitely agree with that diagnosis).
Don't know if this applies to you but wanted to share what I have come to realize about myself in case something similiar is going on with you. |
