I have never tried it, cryingontheinside, so unfortunately I don't have a lot of advice to give to you I'm glad Little Lulu was able to report her friend's experience! I'd suggest to talk to your Pdoc about this and see how it goes from there if you haven't already. Hopefully he/she will be able to help you. Perhaps he/she will be able to explain to you how it works and if you could try it in his/her opinion. I hope you'll be able to get the help you need and deserve! I hope it will work out for you if you decide to try it. Remember that we're here for you if you need it. Feel free to PM me anytime. Let me know if I can do something to help you. Wish you good luck! Let us know how it goes. Sending many hugs to you, cryingontheinside

I've had hypnosis several times over the years for various things and always found it relaxing in a way most other techniques aren't, I suppose because you are encouraged to go inward and access a deeper level of consciousness than usual.

One tape I was given started out with having you relax and close your eyes, then start imagining you were descending 10 steps into an underground room. You could visualize light there if you wanted, didn't have to be total darkness. There was something especially soothing about that image, and when you got deep enough sometimes you could access the roots of things that were troubling you in your daily life and try to reprogram them.

If you're interested, ask around or look on the Net for a reputable hypnotist and give it a try, I say.

I started weekly hypnotherapy sessions (they've been lasting 90 minutes each) for about 5 weeks. I didn't have any expectations going in, because I've never personally known anyone who did it. I am inherently a skeptical person - especially with regards to things I don't fully understand.

I have found the sessions themselves to be insightful, relaxing, and positive. I have felt over the past few weeks that a sliver of light is breaking through a dark veil of depression that has shrouded me for many months. I am still not willing to say that the positive changes I've noticed are fully attributable to the hypnotherapy, but I'm going with that for now. At least I'm feeling some long awaited and much desired hope, in small increments.

I've been trying a lot of ways to supplement my talk therapy sessions to help with the rut I've been in. I seem to be resistant to most depression treatments - prescription meds, TMS, and EMDR. I have learned soooooo much in hypnotherapy, and it has been a great add on to talk therapy. I use what I learn from each as complementary treatments.

My talk therapist recommended my hypnotherapist. Perhaps yours knows of someone? I would recommend finding someone who has a lot of training. Mine has her certification from the Hypnotherapy Academy of America and is a CMS-CHT, FIBH (CMS= Certified Medical Support Clinical Hypnotherapist. CHT= Certified Hypnotherapist. FIBH= Fellow of the International Board of Hypnotherapy). She has about 600 hours of training.

I only had it once, but didn't get anything from it- I think for me it was less about the method, more about the person doing the therapy. I didn't like him, and I think by the end he didn't like me either

but it's put me off

I know this thread is withering on the vine, but I wanted provide an update. Again, this is my personal experience only. I'm not saying hypnotherapy absolutely will lead to improvement, but I feel comfortable saying that it can be beneficial. I believe that it has helped me chip away (synapses? beneficial chemical releases? brain elasticity?) - several layers of the iceberg (depression) that has encased me for many years. I am not even going to attempt to understand or explain it. But, it is the only new thing I've added recently to my routine in the past month or so, and I actually feel more positive and hopeful. That is all.

Sounds like a healthy alternative! Drugs are the main thing that helps me but so does yoga and getting outside. More hopefulness is good.
