I have a few things at the moment that I am waiting for. I have mentally put the issues away in mental boxes.
My anxiety is relentless. I have tried reassuring myself that it will all be okay in the end but this is not helping. Any tips? |

I hope your anxiety is better today.
I have struggled at times the last few days with some success, so how to deal with it is fresh in my mind. I have three tools, introspection, medication and action: >Introspection--Am I coping well? If not why? Has something changed? (New job, move, someone is demanding something, financial stress) Therapy can help us be better at this. If we do not understand why we are so anxious then I think therapy can help with this but it can take time. PC and reading also helps with this. >Medications--Some are as needed (so we use introspection to decide when we need them), some might need adjustment when stressful events in life throw us a curve. I take four. Three I use well. The newest one I sometimes only take 1/2 the dose because it make sex less enjoyable and it decreases my ability to concentrate and remember things and numbs my emotions. I have noticed that I can take a 1/2 dose for a day or two but if I keep on this path for to long, I have problems eventually. Since I really dislike it, I am going to ask my Psych doc on my next appointment if there is an alternative. >Action--Am I anxious because I am procrastinating about something I should be doing? There are things on our to do list that really must be done (and prioritized--when our anxiety is bad, maybe we have to shorten the list for the day but not accomplishing some of what I need to do makes me really anxious and when I get it done, it helps my anxiety) or perhaps we haven't had that frank talk that we should have already had with someone we love, or we just aren't taking the time for self care (exercise, quiet time, sunshine, relax time). Also, do we have a bad habit that is sabataguing our recovery like drinking, gambling, overspending, pot, etc? This is my take on it. Hope it helps. |

Just talked to my son and the topic came up in the conversation. He adviised: meditate and stop and smell the roses. The key is to stop. You can't start until you stop.

Distraction is my best tool for things like that. I find other things to hold my attention. Only works some of the time. Sending hugs and support.
