I'm about to get on a plane to move to Arizona, and I am so worried about becoming non-functional due to social anxiety, and the sadness over moving away from my family.

I'm looking for some kind words, advice, your experiences, and anything else

Hi Zygomycosis, i am also moving to Arizona and im terrified! You would think i would be glad to go cause my immediate family lives there, which is the opposite of you. I am petrified of planes, a new apartment, seeing a new pdoc and t, seeing new ppl. When and what city are you moving to? My best advice is to make a list of your fears, take one thing at a time and talk to someone about each one, journal, look at places to live before you go there (thats what im doing now), try to face your fears. i dont have any illusion that it will be easy for either of us but i know over time we can make it! Take care of yourself and message me if you need to.

Change is hard!

BIG CHANGES are even harder!

When I made my BIG move, and after I got settled in to my new environs (residence/work), I started picking one thing to do or explore.

I started out once a month, then every couple of weeks, then every weekend.

I learned one new bus route a week by hopping on a route and doing a round just to see where all it went.

After that, I explored places of history / interest & fell in love with a botanical garden that ended up becoming my "zen" place.

11 years later, I still go there when feeling overwhelmed and disconnected.

Sometimes I'll walk the paths and other times I'll just find a quite place to sit and enjoy the beauty around me.

Also, perhaps a small pet to keep you company?

The stray kitty that "adopted me" really helped soothe my nerves!

Hope some of those ideas are helpful for you.

Sending you good thoughts as you embark on your new journey.

What would be an adventure for most, is scary as heck for those of us that struggle with anxiety!
