Trigger warning for: contamination phobias, food phobias.
My life has been totally derailed by my phobias. I cannot EAT anything anymore besides the safest things possible. Lettuce has been ruined because of the e coli breakout last year. Raw vegetables as well. Any meat. I fear I have allergies to shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, coconuts, bananas, pumpkins, radishes, eggplants, seeds... I am afraid restaurants could mistake normal mushrooms from toxic ones, so I can't eat those either. Eating eggs requires so much handwashing because of possible salmonella. Underbaked cookies and brownies are potential salmonella harbors. Raw flour is a hazard. Every processed food must be checked for recall before I eat it. It's exhausting. And that's not even counting my other obsession: contamination. Cat litter can give you diseases. Surfaces must be wiped down where the cats have walked (tables, counters). My girlfriends snake has salmonella; whoever touches its cage must wash their hands or else I need to clean most of the house. Don't touch faucets in public bathrooms. Don't touch handles in public bathrooms. Clean food cartons when you bring them home from the store. Clorox the kitchen when someone makes anything with meat. Avoid kitchen towels, avoid kitchen sponges, they've got raw meat juice on them. My tension headaches are getting worse and worse. I am so tired from all of this. I need help or advice or something. |

I'm sorry I don't have any advice to offer you. However here are links to 3 articles, from PC's archives, on the subject of contamination OCD. Hopefully there will be something in them that will be of some help:
