a little background:

I've recently come to accept that characters on tv are characters, not actual people

for example: I know sheldon cooper is a guy called jim parsons, but a year ago I'd have said he was sheldon

so now I have big anxiety when it comes to a character I like having a bad storyline in the show in question

using sheldon as an example, if he got in to a fight and injured himself, I'd asume it was jim parsons who was injured, not the character of sheldon- and it gets to the point where I obsess over it

no matter how many times I tell myself that the actual person playing the character is fine, it doesn't work

a couple of days ago in another show,

Possible trigger:

for ages now, all I could think about was oh.. poor laura, poor laura, I wonder how her and her husband are coping, when in reality laura's fine, it was her character who had the issue

it's a weird anxiety, and one I don't suppose is heard of much

still has anyone experienced this? / still experience it.

and how do you cope when it happens. like how do you tell yourself it's okay and not to worry.

I wouldn't call it a weird anxiety, because any anxiety no matter what it is is horrible.

I have never experienced that before , but I imagine that it can be really devastating with certain shows on television. I wish I could help you out better and I hope someone else can help you out.

This is why I only watch cartoons and reality TV. I know what you mean though.

Actually this is happening to me right now and it’s really weird. In the new Spongebob episode there was this weather guy named Gale Doppler and this storm cloud flew into him and he got really big and then he turned cold and he said “my body is cold.” And he said “what is happening to my body?”’and then he was struck by lighting and he said “I don’t want to be the weather anymore! It hurts!” And I feel bad for him for some reason. And the guy was the antagonist of the episode so he wasn’t even meant to be felt bad for. I don’t get why these things happen to me but they do.
