Hi. 3 of the last 4 mornings I have woken up crying from a nightmare in a full blown panic mode. I am almost 58 and there hasn't been any traumatic events in my life in quite some time.
I have MDD, PD, some PTSD but I thought this was getting better. This is Monday, this past Saturday I almost went to my knees in Kroger with panic. I just wanted to cry. I had been using every coping mechanism I know. Deep breathing, Positive thoughts, quoting Scripture. I was trying everything. I don't know what's going on but something is. Any help would be appreciated. Meds are Lexapro 20 mg, Lorazepam 1 mg twice daily, Gabapentin 400 mg twice daily (neuropathy but has mood stabilizing benefits as well). I guess that's it for mind meds. Metformin for diabetes 500 twice daily. I use my GP as Pdocs are few and far between where I live. Plus $$$. Thank You for any comments. Yak |

I’m so sorry you are experiencing this. Panic attacks are REAL. I don’t know what may be causing this for you. Could it be related to your meds?

I have anxiety but never experienced a panic attack, until recently. I was waking up from my sleep feeling like suffocating and my throat is closing up. The first time I experienced it I went to the ER, because I thought I was dying. Now whenever it hits me, I try to stay calm, and remind myself to breath and assure myself I still can breath.

when it comes to panic attacks, my key thing is getting air (open window, going in to a cool room, what ever)
it really helps me to the original question: I think one of the things that helps me is to try and solve all the anxieties I'm anxious about from the day before th eend of the day it isn't a complete fix, as sometimes you can't just click your fingers and have it sorted but: knowing I've done all I can on my end to make things easier and to make me aware of what will happen, I feel a little better |

Thanks for posting. Feeling a panic attack developing. To the point that I can't think of what to do. Had to go off anti-anxiety meds as contraindicated with new med. So been a long time since this happened. Will re-read and try everything.....

cavaliers.... how are you doing?. I hope you're safe and that you managed to get through the pannic atack one thing I did think of while reading your post was soft, soothing sounds (I don't mean music, but like wale sounds, dolphin sounds, beach sounds) to transport you (as it were) to another place. |
