Well i'm not sure if this is a phobia or if my ears are extremely sensitive.
I can't stand loud sudden sounds as they scare me and i start to get really anxious and sweating, i just want the noise to stop. so i have to hold my ears really hard. I start to get anxious if i see a simple baloon in front of me afraid he might pop. -thunderstorms -some dogs bark -fireworks -other sudden loud noises thunderstorms is what i like to not be afraid more, since i can't control the weather, but the other sounds i can avoid situations that involve them but if i go to a concert or cinema i can handle the loud sound I find this is really strange, but annoying. as far as i remember i had this since i was a child, i'm 23 today. is this a phobia or something wrong with my hearing?? |

It sounds like you have very sensitive hearing, and loud noises are very jarring to your senses and uncomfortable. It makes sense to me that then you'd be afraid of the noises. Especially if it comes out of nowhere or surprises you. Are you in therapy? Maybe you can work with a therapist on this to at least be able to cope with the distress loud noises cause you, and learn not to be afraid of them or the reactions your nervous system has in response. If you're concerned about your hearing, consider seeing a specialist (audiologist, I think).

I get the impression (allowing of course for the fact I'm a lay person and not a psychologist) that logically, given you CAN handle the cinema and concerts but not thunderstorms, this would suggest that rather than being a sensitive hearing issue, you perhaps experience something similar to me, which is what I would call "situation-specific" anxiety/panic. Does the sound of a clap of thunder remind you of something unpleasant or traumatic you once experienced? Obviously the resolution of these issues would require more than just identifying their source, and perhaps you need to leverage the assistance of a mental health specialist. However even if you do, it's still worth a bit of inward searching and contemplating what might be the deep underlying belief or memory. That is just my opinion anyway.
