I live in a state where we are known to get hurricanes. It was recently announced that a hurricane was heading for our state. I live in a mobile home with my parents and I fear for our home. We previously made it through two hurricanes (Matthew and Irma) and nothing happened to our house.

Despite knowing that we have plenty of food and water and a generator, I still worry. I know it's a part of nature, but I just can't help but worry. What should I do to feel better about the storm?

Good news! 5 AM update this morning is saying it will likely stay off shore of Florida. Yes, you must watch the news because when you are in a mobile home you must evacuate if the eyewall gets to close because mobile homes can't stop high winds so your anxiety is warranted. Sometimes our anxiety is there to protect us--it is giving us a message we have to listen to and take action when logical. You have to watch the news but maybe just don't watch it constantly?

I live in Florida too so I understand your fear. TunedOut makes a good point about staying on top of the latest news, but don't watch it constantly. Watching constantly will jack up your anxiety. The TV folks are looking at ratings and act like chicken little.

I started a thread in the social forum titled "hurricane season". Members made some good suggestions. Maybe reading those posts would help you?

One thing that helped with my anxiety was to focus on the things I have control of. I have my supplies. I have an evacuation plan if I need it. When I get scared I remind myself of those things. Am also using self talk when the "what ifs" start.

As for your anxiety, it's expected that we become anxious when something threatens us. This monster storm is a serious threat. It's okay to be scared. Lots of us are.
