I used to be able to drive everywhere, even after two serious accidents. Slowly, driving anxiety kicked in. It got to a point where I had to avoid freeways, but now driving through the cities terrify me as well. I can get to work run some errands close to home, but that’s it now. Some days are better than others but I pretty much avoid what I fear. I did see a therapist once years ago and it worked for a little while but like a Band-Aid, it fell off. I’ve seen some different books and podcast and such but don’t know where to start. I’ve got to get over this. My husband needed to go to the airport today and I couldn’t take him. He doesn’t understand. I don’t want to have to rely on medications to drive. Any suggestions?

Also, resources like "google maps" help me to see where I am going before I go. You can see tricky intersections etc. Every weekend take a trip someplace just for fun / practice. Stay in the right lane on highways.. get off if needed. |

I don’t want to drive because my anxiety is too bad. I’ve tried telling people this and everyone gave me such a hard time about it. I don’t even have a license but they were being so demanding about why I didn’t drive and how much longer I’d have my mom keep driving me around. Even my new therapist was doing it. I mean if someone isn’t comfortable driving then why should they be forced to? Anyways when I saw my sleep specialist she said I am not medically able to drive so now if people ask I can say I can’t because I have a medical condition. People just really need to learn to shut it sometimes.
