I have a trip coming up at the beginning of February. It involves several flights, and I have major, MAJOR anxiety when it comes to airport security. I am going with two friends of my mind and keep thinking about going through security and being so anxious about going into a possible anxiety attack.

I have an anxiety disorder and PTSD among other things, is there any tricks to help me get through security at the airport. I have anxiety meds, but they make me drowsy.

Definitely could use some help. Thanks in advance!

Hi IronButterflyWings,

I can definitely relate to what you describe from my own personal experience, so what you write about is not abstract to me, but very, very real.

Your feelings are very understandable to me which is probably why I try to always travel by train.

I usually take my anti-anxiety medication when I am in your situation at airports but I can understand what you said about them making you drowsy. That happens to me too.

I hope your two friends can be helpful to you.

Sorry I don't have anything really helpful to offer you in the way of advice. Hopefully others here will have some practical and useful ideas.

Wish I knew what else to say. I sure hope things work out of you so you will not be suffering!!! -- Yaowen

It is comforting knowing that I'm not alone in feeling like this.

I'm honestly about afraid to tell my friends how bad it is for airport security with me.

I'm afraid I don't have much in the way of helpful advice, but I'm very sorry that you're dealing with this situation, IronButterflyWings

You said that you're afraid to tell your friends how much you struggle with anxiety in airports... that must be stressful. Is there perhaps one of them that feels like a safe person? If so, maybe you could confide in just that one so you have some in-person backup while you're at the airport. Either way, best wishes to you that everything goes smoothly for you I hope your whole trip goes well! Is it a holiday of some sort?

I'm officially on vacation and I had no problem going through airport security. My hands were shaky and clammy but I made sure to have everything ready for the lady dealing with me. And no pat downs, which was what I was sooo worried about.

GO ME!!!!!!!!
