My sister’s family just tested positive for COVID. My sister and brother-in-law are both high risk so that is concerning. They were very careful. My mom is hysterical which isn’t helping. We’re hoping and praying everything will be okay.

Sorry to read this. I hope they will do okay. Not to minimise the risk of this virus at all but some people who are high risk have done okay. My friend's dad tested positive 2 weeks ago and hasn't developed symptoms, he is in his 80s and very frail - it really is a mysterious virus.

what I don't get though is even where things are closing, they are keeping schools open. Especially for high schools I don't understand.

Over here, they have to air out - open all windows - between every class and I think once during as well. So basically kids are being told to dress warm because it'll be freezing in the classrooms. That doesn't sound like a great solution.

We're no longer required to go into the office now but it'll remain open for people who can't work from home or prefer working from the office. I don't know, I kind of liked getting out of the house, even enjoyed the bike ride to the office (even in the pouring rain kind of made me feel at home ) but I probably won't go over to sit at the office by myself.

I have to say, even a Skype/Zoom call made me feel better last week. So it does help a bit. I just don't have that many friends to talk to.

I'm still following the news (have to know what the current rules are) but I've decided to stop reading the comments at least. The discussion about the measures and reading people's idiotic and/or selfish comments is so frustrating.
This is sensible- I should also stop reading idiotic comments too.

That is great Skype helped you- I have a small pool of friends too, but I don't know about you, I appreciate them more than ever - although miss just hanging out over a coffee. Something nice to do is reach out and send a card in the post- I don't know if that might help you feel connected too?

You are right we are going into 2nd lockdown on Thursday, after PM rejecting earlier suggestions. I am resigned to it. I am an essential worker so not much will change for me.

Schools are continuing here too - I don't know if they air classrooms like you describe here.

Germany seems to have done better than many, in fact my impression is that you have better public health and services - just my impression. I have never been to Germany but my son has and likes it very much!

Keep well and let us know how you are doing.

Thank you for this. I relayed the information to my 85 year old mom. It was of great comfort to her and to me.

Sorry to hear that, Jenifer. Thanks god your sister and brother-in-law are taking their precautions. Support them to go on this way.

How old is your mother if you don’t mind I ask you?

We were writing at the same time so I couldn’t read your last post. :-)
Also, you have to know that according to what I heard, males are more affected by the virus than females.
As @Discombobuluted says, there’s still lots of things we don’t know about this virus.
I understand your mother worries though.
Care a lot of her!

Over the months, the covid situation has become more difficult. Not being able to see my mental health care providers f2f is disheartening. Constantly being on guard, wearing masks...I miss human contact to the point at which it affects me mentally. No smiles; people are like robots now.

The terribly poor leadership from the federal government and the infighting in the U.S. is almost unbearable. This cannot be over soon enough.

Beth, I do understand that not being able to follow therapy as before only adds more unease to us.
I’ve been living a deep depression and it’s not until next December that I can have the appointment with my psychiatrist.

I'm so sorry about your depression. The disruption in how we can connect with our mental health providers is very challenging. Sometimes feels impossible. If I am able to see my pdoc and therapist in person before a year has passed I'll be very surprised.

Well, we just got the news that our municipality will transition to phase 3 on Thursday. The main benefit of this is that we say goodbye to the permit system all week. In phase 2, we still needed a permit to to out on weekends and were limited to one. More businesses can open. Restaurants can serve outside with 25% capacity. I don't see myself going to a restaurant for a while, but I am happy I will finally be able to go to the nurseries around here (we have a lot) and get some trees and flower plants.

I really hope people are responsible so we don't get sent back a phase or 2.

Just tired of wearing face masks, social distancing, want things to be normal. Don’t have an issue doing these things to help prevent transmission of the virus, just tired of it.

we are about to enter a second lockdown from tomorrow (until the second december). our prime minister is still trying really hard to save christmas, but even if he does their's still going to be so many restrictions (the country is basically ****ed, not sure a month lockdown will do much good)

but hey: I am greatful that I don't have it, or no anyone that does.

one advantage to being an intrivert I guess: in a situation like this, you don't know anyone who can infect you

Our official keeps saying, "We're rounding the turn." But the health experts are saying that we're in for a deadly winter. It just sends a bad message. Just lies and lies. Seems like the only concern is for the economy and not the people.

we have a new advertising slogan over here, which is " hands, face, space" and it is meant to remind people to wash their hands, cover their face and social distance

bit annoying when you hear it over 50 times a day, but I guess it gets the message across (or I hope it does,) their's still lots of people who don't do it

I have to say I am a bit angry at the prime minister.

yesterday he's like oh.. well we're going in to lockdown tomorrow, today he's like oh.. schools are staying open though, schools are fine

as if

you can defenetly get covid from schools, bit of a breeding ground

still of the opinion that this lockdown will fail

Schools have been one of the main sources of infection where I live and I personally know a couple of teaching assistants who contracted it at work. I think the rationale of keeping them open is the children can't afford to lose anymore education. So they are in effect saying the infection will go through the school sector. I'm unsure of the wisdom of this too. It would've made sense to coincide lockdown with at least some of half term holiday to me.

Day 1 of new lockdown. It feels different this time to me - more organised because businesses are equipped to do online and click and collect. Trying to keep positive but who knows how this is going to pan out.
