The thoughts in my head are just like a running in circles the last few days treading over ground over and over and over. I hate when I get into this phase.

Ruminating (circular thinking) is a type of thought pattern. What is causing you anxiety right now that triggered it? Do you have any good coping mechanisms that you use to stop it when it starts to happen?

When my ruminating gets triggered it's after I experience a disappointing outcome to a situation. The pandemic has really triggered my bad habit of rumination/dwelling because I'm socially isolated with zero support.

Once you figure out what triggers your habit of dwelling on the past, you can learn to stop dwelling. But that takes a lot of practice. One thing that I learned from my dwelling, is that it is my way of trying to change the past. But as we all know, you can't change your past. You are stuck with your past. All you can do is try to move forward which is super difficult to do.

Usually something reminds me of a mistake I have made or at least think I have made. Usually where I think I have said or done something that wounded someone (not physically just to be clear) but psychologically for sure. That starts me ruminating on how there’s no way to fix it and that person probably hates me, and everyone would hate me if they only knew about the terrible thing. I wish I could rewind time and never do the thing but that is useless etc etc.

I hate ruminating as well. For me its usually about a negative future I predict for myself. Needing to give up my pups and then becoming homeless. Or worse, dying before I'm able to see my pups on their final days. I don't do very well in breaking out of it, mostly just riding it out. I can sometimes catch myself doing it and focus on something else. Walking my pups or at least giving them a good snuggle. Trying to be in the here and now, rather than this terrible future that probably won't come to pass.
