Hello,
I have just stumbled across this website today and hoping someone might be able to help.

My daughter is in her last year of school and for the last couple of years has been falling asleep in lessons. She finds in hard to sleep at night, regularly waking up and struggling to get back to sleep. For the last 2 years we have been back and forth to the doctor for blood tests and vitamin levels, thyroid and glucose are all fine, so they have basically written her off.

I have been researching so many different avenues then somehow found my way to ADHD. She has always been very forgetful and clumsy, loosing bus passes, money and mobile phones. Always missing deadlines at school because shes left the homework on the printer no matter how many list and planners we try. As she turned into a teen she gets anxious about new situations like school trips and meeting new people but I do too so just thought she was like me. However, now I think about it she would be physically sick when she was younger before any stage performance and be in tears before sports day or something she hadn't experienced before.

We believe my did may have had aspergers and my nephew too. Her uncle from her dad's side is diagnosed with ADHD and they believe his Grandad had it too.

I have just never related falling asleep with ADHD but it is times when she is bored, in lessons, at my mums, queuing at a theme park.

Does this sound like something anyone else has experienced?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hopefully you will receive some replies from members who've had personal experience with what your daughter is experiencing. In the meantime, though, here are links to some articles, from PsychCentral's archives, that may be of interest:

I'm so sorry you and your daughter are struggling, Snow Fairy Unfortunately the only way to know for sure whether or not she has ADHD is through a proper diagnosis. So I'd suggest to go to a doctor and see how it goes from there. What you've listed are all common symptoms, so that may be possible. Once you get the answer, you can finally start working with your daughter so that she won't be struggling anymore. I wish you good luck! I'm so sorry you have to deal with this
