Hey all!
So I'm going through my second round of intensive outpatient and it's basically a lot of sitting and listening... I can absolutely get up and go take space if I get too antsy but I'd like to actually be present for the 'classes'... My doctor acknowledges that I have ADHD but refuses to prescribe meds due to the bipolar diagnosis, and wants to leave that up to my mental health team. Fair enough, but it also means I have no medication to support me. I'm pretty much on my own here. So, my question: Focus tips? Tips on how to stay engaged? Tips on how to not get overwhelmed to the point of distress just from having to sit and listen for an hour at a time? Any help is greatly appreciated. __________________ BPD, DID, ADHD Ruling out bipolar. Take good care of yourselves <3 |

the only thing that comes to mind at the moment s maybe having a pleasing picture with you (something that you can look at and feel calm while doing so), wearing a certain perfume/ aftershave with a calming smell, take something with you that if you get anxious/ overwelmed you can remove it and fiddle with the zip, or the buttons or what ever is on it, something like that.
good luck |

perhaps wear headphones on your ears (not so much you can't hear what's being said), but enough so at random points you can reach out and fiddle with their position
I hope I'm helping.. I don't really have any ADHD experience (I know what it is, just about). I just wanted to try to help you |

I have BD and have been taking adderall for like 14 years so it is a possibility. People with ADHD also have sensory issues sometimes and need something repetitive or constant while they focus on listening and sitting. I use lolipops and gum. The only way I was able to sit through AA meetings to get sober was the candy and the gum.
