I was originally diagnosed with adhd then later on it was changed to bipolar and I was placed on lamictal I noticed it seemed to help with my temper and impulsive nature sometimes I think.

Then a year or so ago it was decided I am severe adhd hyperactive and the bipolar was wrong. I decided to keep the lamictal in addition to my adhd meds.

Recently I don’t have health insurance and ran out of lamictal knowing it was coming I tapered my drop off slowly and had no discontinuation effects however talking to my wife since I’ve been off she said she hasn’t noticed a change in me with the exception of I’m always messing with her in little annoying ways it’s been compared to like picking the legs off a spider not done to be mean though instead for some reason it amuses me to do little things such as for example move to make her kiss my cheek instead of my lips at the last moment little stuff like that.

I remember when I was younger I used to be amused with what I think of as messing with people and occasionally then like now I didn’t seem to be able or know when to stop and would make people angry.

Just curious if anyone else has that as a part of their adhd or if maybe it’s a strange personality thing of mine rather than a symptom of my condition.

Just curious

Either way I’ve decided between that and my patience and temper changes I’ve noticed but she hasn’t that I’m going to self pay for a refill and restart because while whatever the lamictal does doesn’t seem to be overly pronounced I’m thinking it must do something.

Do you have specifics for why you were undiagnosed with bipolar?

I was told by the psych my adhd hyperactive was severe enough that some of its traits were mistaken for hypomania. They also pointed to the fact I don’t truly have down swings either I do sometimes get what I would call depressed or stuck in a rut but usually it is situational and almost never emotional never had crying issues never had suicidal thoughts.

Never had true mania either the main symptoms of what that doc called my “hypomania” was thinking too fast talking too fast and being somewhat impulsive. I also occasionally have sleep issues. None of it seemed to fit a cycle really.

That’s kind of a synopsis of what I remember not what was exactly said.

The first adhd diagnosis was one doctor.

The bipolar diagnosis and practical complete ignoring of the adhd was another doctor. Who was at the low income sliding fee scale. I had to force them to try and give me anything for the adhd and in the end due to their policies nothing worked I tried every non stimulant medication suggested to me with no relief.

Then I finally got health insurance again and kept it for a period of time while keeping the same doc. The very first I’m I met the doc in my
Initial evaluation they said we will watch for bipolar signs however you are absolutely severe adhd hyperactive and that is how I was put back on adderall and have been doing somewhat better.

Unfortunately my stability of care just isn’t there due to my job issues and having to bounce around due to insurance.
