Hi. I think I have ADHD and I have been researching symptoms for a while. I struggle bbn with most of them for a long time and I'm scared. My parents dont believe in this stuff so I dont know what to do. It's gotten to the point where I've forgotten so many assignments I have over 30 missing assignments at school. I cant concentrate but my parents just say I'm lazy. I dont know what to do but I'm not sure i can live like this anymore without some serious consequences. What should I do?

Hello Sweetgloryy: Thank you for bringing your concern here to PC. I see this is your first post. Welcome to Psych Central. The School & Study Issues forum, here on PC, may also be of interest to you. Here's a link:

https://psychcentralforums.com/school-and-study-issues/

You wrote you believe you may have ADHD, you have over 30 missing assignments & you don't know what to do because your parents don't believe in mental health issues. I'm sorry you're stuck in this most difficult situation. Of course I don't know any of the details regarding your situation. But based on what you wrote, it sounds to me as though the answer here may lie in you seeking the help of staff at your school. If there are student counselors available talk to them about what you're experiencing & what you suspect may be the cause (ADHD). Also talk to the teachers with whom you have missing assignments. Explain your situation & ask for their help.

Part of the problem here is the anxiety & stress you are enduring. And the only way that is likely to go away is if you can figure out a way to resolve your school-related difficulties. To do that, you're likely going to need the help of the staff at your school. If you can't find anyone on staff at your school who is willing to help you, perhaps consider talking with your family doctor about your ADHD concern. Also might there be a relative (an aunt, uncle, or grandparent) you could confide in & who would perhaps intercede on your behalf with your parents?

These are all just off-the-cuff suggestions, so to speak. But the bottom line here, as the saying goes, (at least from my perspective) is that you have to find someone who can help you work your way through your current dilemma & (hopefully) also help you to get the professional mental health services you need in order to determine if in fact you do have ADHD or some other mental health concern. The one thing you definitely don't want to do is to simply give up, isolate yourself, & wait for everything to come crashing down on you in some way or other. And unfortunately, since your parents deny the existence of mental health problems to begin with, it is left to you to reach out to others in your life for the help you need. My best wishes to you. I hope you find PC to be of benefit.
