I'm a female in my 30's and was only diagnosed with Aspergers two years ago. I have extremely low self esteem due to being constantly being put down in the workplace, because every job I've ever had, has ended in disaster.
In my mind, I'm doing nothing wrong. But apparently I'm lazy, awkward and a trouble maker because I get the social stuff so wrong. I can't play the 'games' or join in with the politics and this seems to make the joke of the workplace. I'm the punch bag and the easy target for everyone to get at, and my self esteem is so low that I can't stick up for myself, so I just take it. I am actually a nice person and if people actually gave me the chance they will see I'm fun to be with. The problem is, they don't know I have Aspergers, because I was already working there when I was diagnosed. I feel like I'm stuck in the Aspergers closet. I'm desperate to get out, but I daren't tell people because I'm terrified of the stigma attached to it. Does anyone have any advice of how to get by in the workplace? It's got to the stage now where I literally don't speak, as everything I say and do is always wrong, well taken the wrong way anyway, as actually I really do mean no harm to anyone. |

If everyone’s being an asshole to you at work the problem may not be them. That’s the case for everyone everywhere not just people with aspergers at work. You know the saying, if it smells like **** everywhere you go, check your shoes.
