I have a problem with social interactions and was wondering if I had a problem. I googled all the problems I could have, researching and reading a lot of information about them. HFA sounds like me, but I don't know if I do have it?

Things I've noticed about myself that is abnormal:
1. I read all day, every day, for at least 6 to 12 hours.
2. I dont like any kind of lights on in my room.
3. I pace around repeatedly for hours while reading uncontrollably. I sometimes don't even notice I'm doing it.
4. When I find a new good song I play in over and over again for at least 2-3 days.
5. I hate any sound as loud as someone talking loudly. It feels like as if you stared at the sun for a second, extremely uncomfortable but not painful.
6. I don't have any friends because I don't like talking to people.
8. My mom says I look aloof and doesn't care about anything but I do care. I just don't like to show emotion.
9. I feel more hurt than normal people when I'm misunderstood or insulted.
10. I don't like to change what I eat. I eat the same things every day until we have something else I like. I would rather starve than eat anything else.
11. I have excellent grades in orchestra and math class, but below average grades for history and science.
12. I feel nothing for anyone besides my mom and sister. When my uncle who I'm a little close to died I didn't really feel anything

Hello kiearacat: I see this is your first post here on PC. Welcome to Psych Central.

We here on PC cannot offer mental health diagnoses. Plus I'm not a mental health professional. So I can't suggest to you whether or not you may be on the spectrum. This is something that would have to be determined by a mental health professional. However perhaps other PC members who do have autism may have some thoughts they can share based on the information you provided. I hope you find PC to be of benefit.

Kiearacat, welcome to PC, 8 years ago I didn’t really know what autism is at all then found I almost have it, since I have nonverbal learning disorder. To be certain you have high functioning autism a psychologist or psychiatrist would interview you and also ask your mom questions about how you developed when a young child, for example, when did you start talking, etc. They would ask if you have special interests, etc.

Also you can check online or at Psych Central for Autism or High Functioning Autism questionnaires that have anywhere from 25-50 questions to help see if you may possibly have autism.

Good luck!
