I’d be interested in people’s opinions on the difference between “friend” and “acquaintance”. I think many people use the term “friend” loosely and wrongly..

I’m also curious as to whether mean people have played you on your sensitivity and fear of being hated?

I no longer care about the opinions of the haters in this world

I probably did feel “inferior” and “undeserving” in early childhood, but I wasn’t....just unloved

For me, my “parents” and the whole “family” of origin were neglectful and abusive.

(I’ve been dxd with Avpd, by 2 therapists and a shrink)

PS I feel like deleting this post

In my opinion, a friend to me is someone who you feel comfortable with and can have a conversation with. A friend is someone who you have a emotional connection with. I don't have a lot of friends, mainly online friends and "workmates". I've had "friends" talk nastily behind my back and I wish I had a friend who'd not talk bad about me. If I'm THAT bad why be my friend? Don't be my friend because you feel sorry for me.

Aah ... I'm sorry Fuzzy. I tried to write something but I purposely wiped it out instead ... because I'm me.

Maybe later ....

I think HappyCheeks puts it well. If I found out that an acquaintance had said something bad about me, I wouldn't be happy about it, but I could shrug it off after a day or so. If someone I thought of as a friend did, I'd be hurt.

There's never any reason for a friend to say nasty things. Even if you're disagreeing about something, or having misunderstandings, nastiness wouldn't even enter your minds. You'd both be upset by any discord, and want to make things right.

I definitely use the word ‘friend’ in a loose manner. I even start some of my messages ‘hello friend’.
In reality, I think in the real sense of the word, I have maybe 1 friend. I just realized that he was a friend because I had to call on him for help, and he came through in a flash. Prior to that, I thought he was just keeping in touch with me out of habit or boredom, and looking out for his best interests.
Wow I really need to change the way I think!!

A true friend is someone you do not lie to
A friend is someone who’s feelings you consider when deciding on your actions and words
An acquaintance is someone you have met and may meet again in the not so distant future

There’s so much more of course
These definitions cannot be expressed in a sentence alone.

Sometimes a friend can be someone you feel safe with even if you do not know them well, like you and i Fuzzy.
I do not fear judgement, and often receive support from you, and that is enough to consider us friends, even though we have never met.

I have no idea what a friend is, I don't consider anyone to be a friend... Well, maybe my sister.
If I have to say something I would say a friend is someone around whom you can be yourself without restrictions and you feel good most of the times you interact with them. You can be your self even without talking, a friend can understand what you are thinking through a gaze.

Is this too much? I don't have friends for nothing...
