Seems I've been racking up diagnoses lately. First major depressive disorder, then generalized anxiety disorder, then hypothyroidism, then Unspecified depressive disorder, then severe ADD, and finally avoidant personality disorder. Wow, all that plus four involuntary holds, residential rehab for mental health, two partial hospitalizations, and intensive outpatient therapy within two months. Oh and did I mention I found God again, rediscovered my artistic tallents and have made around five hundred drawings in that same period, all while remaining slightly depressed and somewhat anxious?

But seriously, I'm hoping that I'm finally coming to terms with what's been eating at me and derailling me over and over. Do I sound like a broken record. Seriously.

I'm sorta swimming in it here. I'd live to hear other people's stories who have avoidant personality disorder.

Thanks for sharing this. It's good you're coming to terms with what's been eating at you & derailing you. That is to be celebrated! I don't have avoidant personality disorder. I'm just an old recluse.

I think it could be that avoidant personality disorder is sometimes misdiagnosed,.. in my case a bad “fit” between a NPD therapist and myself... maybe I have “traits” of it only. A belated welcome to the forum.

Hey, thanks for sharing!

I was also diagnosed as AvPD after being diagnosed as having generalized anxiety, being depressive, ADHD and Borderline Personality Disorder..

I haven't been hospitalized or anything.. I kind of tried to ignore it considering I was being judged endlessly by my own family so of course I lived all my anxiety attacks "cold turkey" which made it worst and traumatizing! Its a relief, now I feel I can do much more, lots of stuff to learn and work to do but still.. Things are going well overall

Question: Do you feel resentment when people or a situation asks something of you? Often I feel a wash of "How dare you invade my space that reserved for freedom," which I think is a big part of AvPD, as opposed to isolating from anxiety or depression.
